Karatsu-jo Castle

Karatsu-jo Castle was completed by Hideyoshi Toyotomi's vassal, Shima Morihiro Terasawa, who took seven years from Keicho 7 (1602).
It is said that the castle was built using the relics of Nagoya Castle.
It is also known as "Maizuru Castle" because the sandy beach centered on the castle and Matsubara look like a crane with wings spread.
In 1877, the ruins of Honmaru became Maizuru Park, and there was no castle tower at the beginning of the construction of Karatsu-jo Castle, but in 1966, the castle tower was built as a cultural tourist facility. The castle tower is a local museum, where materials from the Karatsu clan and Karatsu ware are displayed, and you can experience the history of Karatsu.
In addition, at Maizuru Park, cherry blossoms in full bloom in late March, and wisteria, which has an attractive scent from late April to early May, are in full bloom. From the castle tower, you can see the magnificent scenery of the Genkai-nada Sea, Iki, and Nijinomatsubara, Matsuura Bridge and the castle town Karatsu.
