Hamasaki Gion Yamakasa (held on July 26 and July 27, 2025)
Hamasaki Gion Festival is a festival of Gionsha (main shrine in the back left of the main shrine) enshrined in the precincts of Hamatamamachihamasaki, Karatsu-shi and Suwa-jinja Shrine, known for its mamushi removal. It is held on Saturdays and Sundays immediately after the sea day in July.
It was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Karatsu City in 2002.
Yamakasa, which is 15m high and weighs 5 tons, is one of the largest in the country, and is three by fishermen (Hamaku), farmers (Nishi Ward), and merchants (Higashi Ward) decorated gorgeously with housegatas and dolls. Yamakasa parades around Hamasaki city area in prayer for big catch, good harvest, and thriving business. The flute, drums, bells, and shamisen music are added to the shout of "Yoyasa" of the way to pull, and the weight of slowly pulling around the evening town. In addition, "Omagiri" that rotates Yamakasa is a must-see. In addition, Hamasaki's Yamakasa is mainly at night, and is also called a "lightenment stand" because it means a stand that provides light to God.
