Autumn Festival Karatsu Kunchi

Autumn Festival Karatsu Kunchi | Mercure Saga Karatsu Resort

This is the autumn festival of Karatsu Shrine, which is held every year from November 2 to 4.

14 Hikiyama cruises around the old castle town on the shouts of "Enya, Enya", "Yoisa, Yoisa" of Sanbayashi and Hikiko played by flutes, bells, and drums. Hikiyama has various shapes such as lions, helmets, turtles and sea breams, and is one of the world's largest dry lacquer arts and crafts made with Japanese paper, lacquer, gold leaf, etc.

On November 2nd, it is called Yohikiyama, and Hikiyama patrols with lanterns at the top of the "red lion" in Katanamachi. Finally, in front of Karatsu Shrine, the fantastic evening Hikiyama attracts the audience. The biggest show place is "Otabisho Shinko" on the 3rd. Hikiyama, who left Karatsu Shrine at 9:30 am, heads to the Imperial Palace on Nishinohama, and at noon, begins to pull at the Imperial Palace. This inn is a sandy place, and the pullers pull down Hikiyama in a predetermined position while the wheels bite in, the pulling in, and pulling out are masterpieces. The 4th is the next day's festival, and in the evening, it will be pulled to the Hikiyama Exhibition Hall without the excitement of the festival.
